Linda Ratliff, MTSA President, presents Anderson Award to Mary Eileen Goss

Mary Eileen is the Transition Coordinator for Bay Arenac Intermediate School District and teachers, parents, community agency personnel, and colleagues have all benefited from her knowledge and expertise. Mary Eileen has provided community training and operated a licensed day care program providing job skills as well as encouraging students to think about training opportunities beyond high school by providing tours. Mary Eileen has been involved in the MI Connections pilot program to help students stay in school. She has promoted leadership and advocacy activities for students. She has implemented innovative programs such as “Stories of Hope” to promote student self-advocacy.

Mary Eileen has assisted middle schools in implementing “Reality Store” and collaborates to provide a Student Transition Conference. She has assisted in setting up high school clubs promoting successful transition to adult life: Transition Central and Career Club. She has helped to develop a Post-Secondary program at the Bay Arenac ISD. Mary Eileen has established a community Transition Council that disseminates community agency information.  She has organized parent night speakers covering many important topics. She also has been involved with the accreditation process through North Central Association.

Even with her busy schedule, Mary Eileen finds time to mentor young adults. She is a Special Olympics Volleyball Coach, and is a mentor to Sarah. Always the optimist, Mary Eileen sees the positives in individuals and situations, she really cares about others and helps them to reach their fullest potential. As you can see, Mary Eileen is an absolutely outstanding individual and I am sure that David would be proud and agree that she is very deserving of this award. Congratulations Mary Eileen!
